Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Radio talk shows are vital platforms for engaging the public on issues of governance, particularly in regions where radio remains the most accessible form of media. In Jalingo LGA, Taraba State, radio talk shows have become a primary medium for disseminating information and encouraging dialogue about governance. These programs allow listeners to voice concerns, question leaders, and contribute to public debates, fostering a participatory culture essential for democratic development. However, the extent to which these discussions shape public opinion and influence governance outcomes remains a critical area for exploration, especially in communities with diverse socio-political dynamics (Yusuf & Abubakar, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the popularity of radio talk shows in Jalingo, their effectiveness in shaping public opinions on governance faces challenges, including limited coverage of rural areas, biases in program content, and restrictions on freedom of expression.
